A Guide to the U.K.’s Conservative Party

For months now, we’ve been hearing that the Conservative Party is on track to defeat the ruling Labour Party in the United Kingdom’s coming elections this spring. With that in mind, Fleishman-Hillard’s London office has created “Conservative Insight,” a handy Web site that provides everything you want to know (and probably more about the Tory [...]

U.S. Healthcare Reform Debate Goes Global

When one lists the public affairs issues in the U.S. that have a global implications, the issues include financial services, climate change, energy, trade and some others.  Healthcare reform is not on the list…until now.  Conservatives in the U.S. are using the so-called “failed” government-guaranteed systems around the world to bolster their case against greater [...]

We’re not in Kansas anymore, Mr. Prime Minister

Most people wouldn’t associate The Wizard of Oz with economic policy.
But during a lecture at the Scottish Tory Party conference last Friday sponsored by Fleishman-Hillard Edinburgh, former Scottish Secretary of State Lord Michael Forsyth did just that. View from the Window – Birmingham, UK

I just arrived into Birmingham, England for the Annual Conservative Party Meeting.  Haven’t left my hotel yet, but it’s already clear that the financial crisis facing the U.S. is also plaguing Great Britain.  My driver was listenting to the speech by Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne at the the conference.  Osborne was railing [...]

Gordon Brown’s New Cabinet

Our colleagues in London have circulated a very useful report on the cabinet just appointed by Great Britain’s new Prime Minister, Gordon Brown. It is an extremely useful document, very informed, incisive and accessible. It is well-suited for sending around to clients. For me, however, it’s a very valuable “cheat sheet,” which [...]
